Unitary fans have evolved. In the past, electricians needed to carry a range of unitary fans for a variety of installations. But now a new breed of fan is available that is ideal for the majority of installations allowing electricians to carry just ‘one fan in the van’.

Tom Emson, product marketing manager at Vent-Axia explains how investment in Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Svara is bringing real benefits to wholesalers and their electrician customers.

The idea that electrical contractors could carry just one type of unitary fan in their vans would have been impossible until recently. Requiring different sizes, run speeds and more resulted in a number of fan types needing to be on hand. Following extensive R&D by leading manufacturers, there are now versatile fans that combine all these options along with smart controls, quiet operation, ease of install and simple set-up through a smart phone. There really is no need to carry any other type of fan!

It’s typical for wholesalers to stock a number of different types of unitary fans with different sizes, run speeds etc. This complicates the wholesaler offering, takes up stock space and demands specialist knowledge from counter staff on the best combination of product for a specific ventilation application.

For the wholesaler, the perfect solution is the one that is highly versatile enabling them to stock one product programmed to be compatible with many different types of installations. Such a solution can help them reduce or rationalise their stock profile, allow better space utilisation for other products and give them the opportunity for focused market promotions to tap into this significant and lucrative part of the market.

Recognising these issues, Vent-Axia developed the Lo-Carbon Svara, offering a number of functions. Designed for use in kitchen and bathrooms, Svara can run on either intermittent or continuous operation for multiple purposes. The Svara features a humidistat which reacts to sharp changes in humidity thus offering effective humidity control.

Svara is quick and simple to set up via an app, offering installers peace of mind. It has three speed modes, with the default setting being for the trickle, with a continuous flow of 10l/s. The second speed runs at 16l/s and is triggered by the light sensor and the boost speed is 30l/s and is activated by the humidistat.

A clever light sensor recognises room occupancy through light movement and shadows, but can distinguish between car headlights flashes and people moving about to avoid nuisance running. It is also possible to set a delay-on so the fan is not triggered by the light during quick night time bathroom visits.

Other great features installers will be keen to benefit from are overrun timers that use two wires, meaning there is no need for rewiring in older properties, and converters that make retrofitting straight forward in a range of holes.

Offering multiple features in one fan, the Lo-Carbon Svara answers wholesalers’ need to stock one type of fan for most installs and a simple set-up.
