How it feels to be a 30 under 30 Winner: Olly Ford

The eFIXX 30 under 30 awards have selected 30 of the next generation of electrical contractors to honour for the second year. Those who have proven that they are willing to go above and beyond in delivering outstanding service and results, were celebrated as the best up-and-coming talent within the industry. Proudly sponsored by Luceco Group, the winners were announced during a virtual ceremony on Friday 31st March and will be celebrated at a Luceco Group hosted winners’ event in September.
One of this year’s 30 winners is Olly Ford, owner of OJF Electrical. Olly shares his journey into electrical contracting and how he started his own business. “I began my electrical career by working weekends from age 14 until I left school at an electrical firm, before starting an apprenticeship with this same firm. I qualified and stayed there until I was 21, then moved to a larger electrical firm based in Essex. But I always had a feeling that I wasn’t where I was meant to be, so I decided to take the dive into the exciting but unknown territory of starting my own company, and OJF was created.”
He goes on to share how it feels to be a 30 under 30 winner: “To say we are an award-winning electrical contractor is amazing in anyone’s eyes, but I think what’s especially great is that the work that the team and I have put into our physical work and social media is being recognised.”
Olly gives his top tips to the next generation trying to progress within the electrical contractor industry. “There are three things you need to succeed in this line of work. One being quality of work; you need to make sure that not only your work is quality, but the products you are installing are also quality. Two is knowing your products; make sure you are an expert in what you are selling to your clients. Three is understanding what your clients’ needs are and working with them to achieve their desired outcomes.”
