- Employees can save £300-1,000 per year on charging their EV for personal usage through pre-tax salary deductions.
- Paying for EV charging becomes more convenient and affordable, whether at home or in public.
The Electric Car Scheme and Allstar today announce their partnership, enhancing awareness to salary sacrifice EV charging across the UK fleet sector. The Electric Car Scheme is one of the UK’s leading electric vehicle salary sacrifice providers, and Allstar is one of the UK’s leading EV, fuel and business expense payment companies. Together, their collaboration brings The Charge Scheme, a salary sacrifice solution for personal EV charging costs, to Allstar customers.
The Electric Car Scheme’s Charge Scheme helps to make driving an electric vehicle even more affordable than petrol or diesel equivalents by enabling employees to save on personal charging costs. Available as an employee benefit for company car users, the solution enables employees to access savings of around 20-50% on all personal mileage charging costs through pre-tax salary deductions.
It also supports EV adoption for drivers who do not have access to off-street parking by including Allstar’s electric charging payment network for businesses, which encompasses more than 67,000 chargers.
The Charge Scheme is offered by The Electric Car Scheme and allows employees to save on EV charging through salary sacrifice, whether at home or on the public network. The scheme includes a charging card and app for easy access and management, and integrates seamlessly with existing payroll systems.
Companies don’t need to be an existing Electric Car Scheme customer to access the service. The scheme simplifies personal and business mileage reporting by clearly separating real personal costs from business mileage, whilst helping drive awareness and adoption of existing salary sacrifice schemes within organisations.
For public charging, the app provides access to more than 67,000 chargers across the UK through a partnership with Plugsurfing, one of the world’s leading EV charging networks. The Charge Scheme also helps drive awareness and adoption of existing salary sacrifice schemes within organisations, creating additional value for HR departments.
Case example of The Charge Scheme in place: Europa Worldwide Group
Europa Worldwide Group, one of the UK’s largest transport and logistics companies with over 1,300 team members across 29 global sites, has already implemented ECS’s The Charge Scheme with strong results.
Amy Gordon, Europa’s HR Coordinator, said, “For a logistics company like ours with team members constantly on the move, the ability for our staff to save substantially on all charging costs has been game-changing in encouraging the switch to electric vehicles. Several team members have already reported potential annual savings exceeding £600.”
Charging costs continue to be a significant concern for potential EV adopters, with many drivers uncertain about the true cost of electric vehicle ownership. The Charge Scheme directly tackles this barrier by providing transparent charging costs through salary sacrifice.
Thom Groot, CEO of The Electric Car Scheme, commented: “This partnership represents a significant step forward in making EV’s truly accessible and affordable. We’ve already helped thousands of employees access electric cars through salary sacrifice, but charging costs remained a barrier for many drivers, particularly those without home charging facilities. The Charge Scheme addresses this by extending salary sacrifice beyond the vehicle to include all charging costs. The response from employers has been tremendous – companies like Europa Worldwide Group are seeing immediate uptake because employees can save hundreds of pounds annually on charging costs whilst supporting their employer’s sustainability goals.”
Tom Rowlands, Corpay’s Managing Director of Global EV Solutions at Corpay, including UK brand, Allstar, said: “Allstar has long worked to support fleets to adopt electric vehicles and that means looking at every touchpoint and transaction and finding a way to make it seamlessly integrated into existing operations. We know that the number of company car users is growing year on year, with
840,000 employees paying company car tax in 2023/24, and it was important to be able to support this unique sub-sector through our partnership with The Electric Car Scheme, with significant cost saving options, ease of use and a convenient model to manage their professional and personal usage.”
