The new KNIPEX Tool Case for Photovoltaics

Solar installations are an increasingly common part of an electrician’s workload and working with MC4 and MC4 Evo 2 connectors requires the right tools. The new KNIPEX Tool Case for Photovoltaics (97 91 04 V03) brings together a purpose-selected set of professional tools in a single, well-organised case, giving electricians everything they need to work confidently and correctly on solar connectors.
At the heart of the kit is the Crimp System Pliers (97 43 66 EVO) which has been specially modified for plug-type connectors used in PV installations and handles cables up to 10mm². The crimping pressure is precisely calibrated at the factory, removing any guesswork and ensuring consistent, reliable crimps every time. The pliers come with a pre-installed crimping die and locator for accurate positioning, and the included locator (97 49 71 1) extends compatibility to all PV connectors in the MC4® series. This matters on site, where working with the wrong tool or an uncalibrated one can compromise the integrity of a connection that will be carrying live current for decades.
The case also includes Cable Shears (95 16 165), capable of cutting copper cables up to 15mm in diameter, and the Precision Insulation Stripper (12 12 12). The stripper comes with adapted blades specifically designed for the larger stripping capacities needed in PV work, covering 4.0, 6.0 and 10.0 mm² cable cross-sections. Having the right stripping tool for the job avoids nicking conductor strands which is a common cause of problems when dealing with higher current applications.
The case also includes the new KNIPEX Mounting Tool Set (97 49 66 3). Designed specifically for the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems, it comprises two assembly tools for tightening the housing screw connection and unlocking the plug connection of MC4® and MC4® Evo 2 connectors. What sets it apart is the magnetic coupling between the two tools: integrated magnets hold the pair firmly together during transport without the need for screws or clamps, making them quick to separate when you need one and easy to keep together when you don’t. A millimetre scale is also incorporated for checking stripped cable length is accurate.
For electricians who want to extend the system beyond PV work, the Crimp System Pliers are compatible with all crimping dies and locators in the 97 49 XX range, opening up close to 1,000 additional crimping applications. The case itself is built to take the knocks of a working day; it’s made of impact-resistant plastic with a foam tray featuring precision-cut recesses to hold every tool securely, plus dedicated storage for two crimping dies and two locators.
Whether you’re fitting a domestic rooftop system or a larger commercial installation, the updated KNIPEX Tool Case for Photovoltaics keeps the right tools organised and accessible.
