Ideal Heating has invited representatives from Macmillan Cancer Support to its headquarters to celebrate a new major milestone of £325,000 raised for the charity.

The heating manufacturer has raised vital funds for Macmillan since 2018, supporting the charity with its work to help people living with cancer and their families.

Ideal and its employees, alongside colleagues from sister companies within Groupe Atlantic UK and Republic of Ireland, have supported Macmillan through sponsored challenges, bake sales and other initiatives.

On average, more than £40,000 has been raised for Macmillan every year during the partnership, helping hundreds of thousands of people living across the UK receive the support they need.

Miriam Moore, HR Director, Ideal Heating and Groupe Atlantic UK and Republic of Ireland, said: “Through our ongoing partnership with Macmillan, we’re very proud to be making a difference to the lives of so many people affected by cancer.

“We’re delighted to have reached the £325,000 milestone, but we’re not stopping there. Our colleagues continue to find new and more creative ways of raising money, which reflects the community spirit and ethos we have embedded within our business.”

Macmillan is Ideal’s chosen corporate charity, and the latest celebration represents years of fundraising through sponsored runs, hikes, swims, bakes sales and countless other activities.

Every month, Ideal employees contribute £1 to wear casual clothes on a Friday. The “dress down Friday” initiative raises around £900 each month, donated to both Macmillan and other charities close to colleagues’ hearts.

Colleagues have also donated to Macmillan through Ideal’s staff boiler purchase scheme, where team members can buy company products at a reduced price, with the difference donated to the charity.

Ideal takes part in Macmillan’s popular annual Coffee Morning, happening this year on Friday, September 25, with colleagues baking cakes and sweet treats to raise valuable funds.

The £325,000 raised for Macmillan is enough to run the charity’s Online Community platform for over a year.

The Online Community supports more than 600,000 people affected by cancer in the UK. It is a free online space for people to chat about the issues affecting them, share experiences and ask questions to experienced professionals.

Ideal’s fundraising total could also support the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on Macmillan’s dedicated Support Line for over 25 days.

In that time, the team could support nearly 2,500 people affected by cancer, providing a wide range of specialist information, such as how to manage side effects, treatment options, and coping with grief.

Hannah Wragg, Macmillan’s Relationship Fundraising Manager, visited Ideal’s headquarters site in Hull to celebrate the latest fundraising milestone.

Hannah said: “Thank you so much to Groupe Atlantic for their dedication and commitment to supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and achieving the incredible milestone of raising £325,000.

“Whether this has been through Macmillan Mighty Hikes and Coffee Mornings, staff raffles, mountain climbs or head shaves, every little helps and we couldn’t be more grateful for the support to help us do whatever it takes to help people with cancer live life as fully as possible. Thank you from Macmillan Cancer Support!”

There are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. That number is rising, and is expected to reach four million by 2030. Every 75 seconds, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer.

Macmillan provides services for people at every stage of their cancer experience. The charity also carries out critical research into cancer, and acts as a powerful advocacy voice, influencing governments and shaping policy around cancer care and support.
