Partial to a Lime Bike ride to work? Ever wondered if you could cycle 50 miles? UK Power Networks employees put themselves to the test as they took part in the Palace-to-Palace challenge to raise money for The King’s Trust.

Setting off at 8am on a misty autumn morning, 36 employees from across the business swapped their hard hats for cycling helmets and cycled 50 miles from London to Surrey. The team collectively raised £9,149 to help tackle youth unemployment across the UK.

The King’s Trust supports young people by providing opportunities, training and confidence-building programmes to help them start careers and build brighter futures.

That mission holds a special place for Cesar Ruiz, one of the UK Power Networks’ energy data scientists who took part in the challenge; the second fundraising event he has completed in support of The King’s Trust. While studying in 2021, Cesar received a scholarship that helped fund his education and pursue career goals.

Cesar said: “Taking part was an unforgettable experience. Not only is it a fantastic charity, but it was also a great opportunity to spend time with colleagues while giving something back to society.

“I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship while I was studying, and it means a lot to now be able to help provide similar opportunities for other young people. I know what it feels like to be in that position and being given that support can make a real difference.”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust, celebrating five decades of helping young people develop the skills, confidence and opportunities.
