Electric Vehicle (EV) charge point operator (CPO) Believ and Warrington Borough Council are helping residents and visitors transition to EVs with the installation of reliable charging infrastructure.

The initiative supports the Council’s vision to build a more sustainable and better-connected town, with its rollout focusing on four car-park sites. One site will feature a rapid charging bay, supported by funding from DEFRA, and will be dedicated to charging for EV taxis in the area. This will aid Warrington’s wider strategy to transition local taxis to EVs.

Across all sites, ten fast, six rapid and two ultra rapid sockets will be deployed with an option to scale up with additional charge points in the future, based on location utilisation. The install will feature accessible charge points that meet PAS 1899 compliance requirements.

Believ will manage the planning, site logistics, installation, operation and ongoing maintenance of the charge points. The project will be financed using the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) scheme, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) funding and Believ investment.

By advancing cleaner transport options and investing in future-proof infrastructure, the Council aims to drive bold climate action and promote the adoption of electric vehicles as a key component of Warrington’s greener future.

Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for climate change, sustainability and the environment, Cllr Tony Higgins, says the council is pleased to be working with Believ to support more residents, visitors and businesses in Warrington to make the switch to electric:

Cllr Higgins said: “Reducing our use of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles is a key response to the growing climate emergency, helping to improve air quality in our borough. We’re delighted to be partnering with Believ as part of our work to make this goal a reality.”

Guy Bartlett, Believ CEO, says Believ is thrilled to support the EV charging rollout in Warrington:

“We’re proud to be supporting sustainable transport in Northwest England through this LEVI pilot. It’s positive to see Warrington Borough Council’s commitment to improving sustainable transport and working towards cleaner air for residents and visitors.”

The installation is set to begin in summer 2026.
