Boots on the Ground: Ideal Heating backs Big Boiler Switch On with free work boots for installers

As temperatures drop and households across the UK hit the thermostat, Ideal Heating is putting its support behind installers on the front line of heating season.
From Monday 20 October – widely recognised as Boiler Switch On Day – Ideal is giving away free pairs of Axinite work boots to installers visiting selected merchants and purchasing a boiler, while stocks last.
The initiative, dubbed ‘Boots on the Ground’, marks the start of the busiest time of year for heating engineers. With boilers firing up for the first time since spring, breakdowns, emergency callouts and replacements spike – putting added pressure on those keeping homes warm.
“Installers are on their feet all day – so we’re giving something back,” said Luke Pykett, Head of Marketing at Ideal Heating.
“From 20 October, we’ll be giving away free pairs of work boots at selected trade counters. Just our way of helping you stay safe, comfy and supported on the job. Like we said: boots on the ground.”
This isn’t the first time Ideal has recognised Boiler Switch On Day – the third Monday in October – as a key seasonal moment for the trade. But with colder weather setting in and many boilers being tested after months of downtime, 2025’s campaign is all about backing the wellbeing of installers and spotlighting the critical role they play in keeping the UK running.
What is Boiler Switch On Day?
Typically falling on the third Monday of October, Boiler Switch On Day marks the moment many households turn their heating on after a summer of little to no use. It’s also the day that any underlying faults tend to reveal themselves – making it a high-pressure period for installers dealing with emergency breakdowns, replacement jobs and service appointments.
