Building expert welcomes government’s pledge to support renewable energy projects

The Government will outline its plans within the Autumn Budget today, with expectations it will pledge its continued support for a switch to renewable energy in homes.
This is likely to involve measures being put in place for homeowners to make switches to renewable energy sources with financial support – a move which has been welcomed by experts. According to recent research by MyBuilder.com, the reliable way to hire tradespeople, many British residents are keen to make the switch to green solutions, but lack the funds to do so.
However, there is still work to be done on education on this subject, as MyBuilder’s research found that nearly half (46 per cent) of homeowners don’t know what heat pumps are, and a third (32 per cent) didn’t understand whether the future oil and LPG ban even affected them.
Andy Simms, a construction expert from MyBuilder.com, said that he welcomed any move to support homeowners in making positive changes to their homes.
“It’s great to see that the government plans to help homeowners make sustainable improvements to their homes. With energy prices rising, and bans on oil and LPG looming, it’s a great time to make these changes.
“However, it’s imperative that adequate grants and schemes are made available, to make these switches accessible for all. Recently, our research showed that a whopping 80 per cent of homeowners in the UK felt government subsidies to change their boilers were not enough.
“It’s also important for education in this space to continue. In our research, we also found that half the homeowners in Britain didn’t know what a heat pump was, and 32 per cent didn’t understand plans to ban oil and LPG boilers. More needs to be done to improve knowledge on these subjects, or take up will be very low.
“We welcome any move to support homeowners in their desire to improve their homes, and look forward to seeing how the government moves forward in its mission to help us create greener homes for the future.”
