City Plumbing to offer low-cost solar training for installers
Posted by: electime 19th September 2025
City Plumbing has announced subsidised solar PV training in conjunction with renewable energy training specialist, GTEC Training. Building on the success of its air source heat pump training courses, City Plumbing has partnered with GTEC once again to offer solar training. Thanks to the Government funding 60 per cent of the cost, the training is offered at the subsidised price of £264. However, the first 50 installers who complete the training will get a £264 credit on their first City Plumbing solar kit order, effectively making the training free*.
A further focus on solar sees City Plumbing become the first national merchant to supply Midea battery storage and EV-chargers. The move is an expansion of the merchant’s partnership with Midea, meaning installers can now purchase the manufacturer’s air source heat pumps, EV and solar PV systems from one supplier and create whole-house solutions for their customer. The product extension is in addition to City Plumbing’s recent opening of dedicated solar hubs across nine of its branches, as well as its solar PV kit builder, which helps users identify all the components needed for a correct installation, saving time and improving accuracy.
“We know solar installations are a growing area for our customers, with our research showing that more than 40 per cent of installers are already trained in solar and a further 44 per cent looking to be in the next 12 months,” said Hemal Morjaria, Managing Director – Heating & Renewables at City Plumbing. “Our subsidised, or even free courses, make upskilling in solar a practical reality for trades who often don’t have the spare cash to invest in their growth and business development. This training, combined with specialist products, tools and service, will help installers take advantage of the massive increase in solar in the UK.”
City Plumbing’s updated solar offer will feature at Solar and Storage Live on 23-25 September 2025 at The NEC, Birmingham. In addition to City Plumbing’s stand at D90a, where installers can receive the latest advice and guidance on renewables, Hemal will take to the stage to discuss how installers can futureproof their solar business as part of a panel, moderated by TV presenter and architect, George Clarke.
