A UK Power Networks employee has got down and dirty in the name of charity, by completing the Very Muddy Race For Life.

Dama Lamont, 55, from St Albans has raised £340 for Cancer Research UK and was running for her loved ones who have been affected by the disease.

“I was running for all of my family and friends who have been affected by cancer,” Dama said.

Dama was inspired by her sister who battled cancer but fortunately recovered, as well as in-laws and friends, which made the fundraiser that much more important to her.

The project design engineer who works in the electricity firm’s Pratt Street office in London, completed the race after tackling mudslides and other huge obstacles at the Stevenage event.

Dama said: “Cancer attacks anyone, and it comes in all different forms. I just think, if I can do something to raise funds for them to help to work on cures or help these people get through what they go through including the sicknesses and the treatments, I’m happy to do that.

“I am fundraising for everybody, for all people, even if I don’t know you, I’m doing it for you. I’ve got my hands, I’ve got my feet so I can walk around, I can move around. There are some people who just can’t do that by no choice of their own.”
