This month, the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) is shining a light on the topic of resilience in the face of adversity. We know that life comes with its fair share of challenges, but resilience can help us navigate them with strength.

August’s wellbeing talk, a Personal Story of Overcoming Challenges, was held on August 6th and presented by Elliott Tierney, an Electrical Contractor with his own business and busy family life. Through his experience of overcoming personal challenges, Elliott has become hugely passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health, particularly in our industry.
You can hear Elliott’s story of how he got back on track in the face of adversity on our YouTube channel.

Resilience: Why is it Important?

Through stories like Elliott’s, we learn about how resilience in difficult situations helps us to adapt and keep moving forward despite setbacks. But it’s about more than just overcoming difficulties – it’s also about developing mental strength, fostering a positive outlook, and learning from our experiences.

Resilience makes a huge difference in both our personal and work lives. Encouraging open discussions and leading by example is a great way to build resilience in the workplace. We
know that resilience at work increases employees’ enthusiasm by 45%, energy by 39% and concentration by 27%. (Source: AON)

Building resilience can be difficult. That’s why the Electrical Industries Charity is here to help industry workers build resilience in their personal and professional lives. EIC offers resources such as counselling, stress management workshops, and peer support networks to empower individuals facing challenges. Through these programs, employees can develop resilience skills, find support in times of difficulty, and maintain their mental and emotional well-being.

Remember to practice self-compassion. Being kind to yourself in the face of challenges is essential for maintaining motivation and morale. Failure isn’t the be all end all – it’s a learning experience.
