The Electrical Industries Charity aim to aid the ‘silent generation’

50,000 retired colleagues of the industry are struggling with loneliness, poverty, isolation and mental health problems and The Electrical Industries Charity is counting on those in the trade to show their support and solidarity.

The idea of retirement is viewed as a time when someone can start living the way they would like, but a recent BBC report states that there are nearly one million people aged 75 years or older living in poverty.

A separate report released by Age UK reveals that poverty, loneliness and isolation are the major factors affecting older people. Almost half of those over 65 or older say their pets and the television are their only forms of company with one million people admitting they always or often feel lonely.

85 per cent of older people suffering from depression receive no help from the NHS due to fearing they will lose their independence.

The Electrical Industries Charity have launched the Pensioner Support Programme which offers elderly people who have worked in the electrical or energy-related sectors. They have been given access to free support services: telephone counselling, financial and debt assistance and household repairs – to name a few.

Those involved in the programme are offered opportunities to connect with fellow retired colleagues and their carers are given support too.
