Plumbers lead the way for sexual fantasies, analysis reveals
There are many professions in the world that millions of people romanticise as being ‘sexy’.
But researchers at Tradefix Direct noticed a common theme with these jobs – many of them are trade professions.
From plumbers to decorators, builders to plasterers – it turns out that people really love a person in overalls.
By counting the number of videos available on adult websites for each profession, the Tradefix Direct team were able to rank the jobs that are most lusted after by the general public.
Key findings:
- Plumbers are the most fantasised over trade profession by a huge margin, with almost 3,000 videos counted on adult sites. That’s more than double the next-ranking job.
- Construction workers come in second place, with 1,332 videos.
- Engineers are the third most popular fantasy, with 837 videos.
- Roofers and welders are the least lusted after, with just 43 and 29 videos counted, respectively.

Despite the often gritty and practical nature of plumbing, this trade has captivated imaginations more than others – beating electricians, engineers, decorators, and even construction workers to the top spot.
Why do plumbers get pulses racing?
Plumbers turn on more than just taps, according to this analysis. But why is that? On the surface, plumbing is a straightforward profession. But its allure might come from deeper psychological and social associations.
Part of the attraction may be linked to the heroic, problem-solving nature of plumbing. Plumbers often arrive during times of crisis – burst pipes, clogged drains, or water shortages – and restore order. This image of the “rescue worker”, showing up at a critical moment, plays into fantasies of competence, reliability, and control in the face of domestic chaos.
The representation of tradespeople in the media
TV shows and movies often present tradespeople in ways that are far removed from the reality of the job. Tradespeople are frequently depicted as rugged, physically attractive, and often involved in dramatic or funny scenarios. This representation has cemented tradies as a figure of fantasy, transforming an everyday worker into a cultural symbol.
While tradespeople might not see themselves as objects of desire, this analysis suggests that their role goes far beyond their everyday jobs – they are fuel for people’s fantasies.
Commenting on the findings, Paul Kershaw at Tradefix Direct said:
“Trade professions can be pretty mundane everyday jobs. But because tradespeople have a certain representation in the media, their roles have been romanticised to a point where their image has taken on a whole new meaning of fantasy.”
“This is reflected in the ways tradespeople are portrayed as rugged domestic heroes in TV and films. This image is particularly prevalent in adult films, much to the amusement of the team at Tradefix Direct.”
