A leading light in project management at UK Power Networks is in the spotlight for her outstanding contribution to new electricity infrastructure.
Claire Sheridan, 36, from Wanstead, was highly commended for Contribution to a Project in the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards 2024 for her pivotal role delivering new multi-million-pound electricity infrastructure.
Last night’s awards in London recognised women who define excellence across the construction industry, and Claire’s work at the heart of the Net Zero transition proved to be a shining example. She helps build the backbone of a power system that enables customers to adopt more low carbon technologies, including Electric Vehicles.
Her role in the company’s Green Recovery programme has energised new electricity infrastructure for bus fleets, motorway service areas and rapid charging hubs, accelerating the UK’s transition to Net Zero carbon emissions.
CN editor Colin Marrs said: “Increasing female representation in the workforce is a key objective for construction firms as they seek to better reflect the broader make-up of society. In this context, it is all the more important to recognise the fantastic efforts to move the needle in the direction of gender equality
“Competition this year in all of the award categories was extremely fierce, so Claire’s win is an incredible achievement and one that is testament to her talent and hard work.”
Claire, London portfolio manager for capital programme at UK Power Networks, said: “This has never meant more to me than it does now I have two young daughters. I want them to grow up in a world where female leaders aren’t the exception, but the norm.
“I love my job because every day brings new challenges and I meet the most interesting and diverse people. I am playing my part in changing the face and future of one of the best cities in the world, and that is an honour.”
Claire graduated in Electrical Engineering from University College Dublin in 2010, designed transmission substations for ESB in Ireland and joined UK Power Networks’ London capital programme team in 2014. Throughout her career, she has consistently shown her ability to lead skilled engineering teams in construction of new power infrastructure for large-scale developments.
Claire’s work makes a positive impact on her community and inspires women and girls to pursue exciting and rewarding careers in the utilities sector.
