The newly launched 2023 edition of the Rated People Home Improvement Trends Report has revealed where the biggest opportunities are for tradespeople in 2023 by uncovering which home improvement jobs will be the most in demand from homeowners.
To uncover the trends, Rated People analysed around 1.1 million home improvement jobs posted through its platform by UK homeowners, and spoke to thousands of tradespeople, homeowners and homebuyers across the UK.
The new research reveals how homeowner priorities have evolved following the pandemic, where so many homeowners adapted their homes for new ways of living. It gives details on the jobs that homeowners are now looking to spend the most on, as well as the jobs that have increased in demand the most, and the top jobs planned by UK homeowners in 2023.
The Jobs That Homeowners Want To Spend The Most Money Onome How Ho
The pandemic and the ‘race for space’ hugely influenced the ways that many homeowners adapted and redesigned their homes in 2022 and 2021. But in 2023, homeowner priorities have shifted from maximising space to optimising design.
Instead, repurposing space will be a big trend for homeowners and a key area of opportunity for tradespeople in 2023. Alongside the usual staples like new kitchens and bathrooms, homeowners are now also keen to create things like saunas, dog shower rooms, home massage rooms, walk-in wardrobes, playrooms and games rooms.
In fact, creating a dog shower is now more of a priority when it comes to planned spend, than things like adding an annex, an outdoor entertaining area or a new kitchen. So for tradespeople who are thinking of expanding their skillset or advertising different jobs in their portfolio, these are the things that are high on homeowners’ wish lists this year.

Adrienne Minster, CEO of Rated People commented:
“Over the past two years, the pandemic has had a big influence on how homeowners have adapted their homes, but in 2023, this has all changed. Life has gone back to normal for many homeowners and they now want to put space to different use and create homes that they can have fun in.
With that brings new areas of opportunity for tradespeople to diversify the types of home improvement jobs that they can help with. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis now meeting people’s desire to be more eco-friendly too, we also expect demand for eco home improvements to continue to climb as more homeowners look for ways to reduce their energy bills.”
