With the cost-of-living crisis at the forefront of everyone’s minds, many large corporations such as Rolls Royce and Lloyds have responded by offering their staff monetary bonuses. But let’s not forget the smaller companies, whose inspirational leaders are going the extra mile to support their employees too.

Back in April when the crisis first hit, lighting company Industville reacted promptly giving all staff a £1,500 pay rise, something not always as easy for a company with a fraction of turnover of the huge multi-nationals.  They decided on the salary increase as opposed to a one-off payment, conscious of the fact that this will be something that benefits staff in the longer term.

Industville specialise in designing lighting and furniture, suppling to chains such as Caffé Nero, Pizza Express, Superdry and Lush, as well as the residential market. Marketa Rypacek, the Managing Director of Industville comments “Despite a significant decline in trade during the pandemic, thanks to a change of business strategy we were fortunate enough to stay on track.  We are proud to have come out of that challenging period without having to make any redundancies and we actually took on 14 new staff. While rising costs are now affecting our business as well as our staff, we really feel once again that we are all in it together. Our employees were so supportive during such a difficult period and we wanted to give them something extra to show our appreciation and help with some of the current rising costs.  I really believe that the main reason we managed to get through the pandemic is because we supported each other and this is the way we will get through the current challenging times too.  Treating our employees well and retaining those fantastic staff has been core to our success so far”.

Industville employ 29 people in their London site and nurturing and supporting them isn’t new to the company ethos.  In 2019 they were awarded an ‘Employer of the Year’, beating off stiff competition from 600 nominations across 24 nations.

At Industville employees are rewarded for their work and loyalty, enjoying among other things, team building days out, weekly lunches, manicures, facial treatments, massages and monthly rewards, not to mention numerous training opportunities, vouchers and other perks that offer discounts on everyday expenses.  They also enjoy Christmas parties, Summer events and festive bonuses; the list goes on.  As firm believers in supporting their staff, the company owners work hard to ensure a company culture that cultivates innovation and achievement.

Marketa continues, “We understand the value of happy employees. We care about their wellbeing as well as their career progression. We support their personal and professional development and allow them to express themselves in their jobs; this proves to be the most efficient way in growing our company and making them proud to work for us. We offer a friendly yet professional environment for the employees to progress.”
