Inverbervie family business shortlisted for national Scottish Family Business of the Year

Cerretti Electrical, an electrical and renewable energy firm based in Inverbervie, Aberdeenshire, has been shortlisted in the Scottish Family Business of the Year Micro category at The Herald Family Business Awards 2026, in association with Business Gateway.
The national awards celebrate family businesses from across Scotland and the part they play in the communities they serve.
Brothers Frazer and Jamie Cerretti grew up watching their dad run a fish van in Gourdon, and it’s where they learned what it takes to run a business: turning up, working hard and building a reputation in the community. Frazer put those lessons to work in 2015, when he started Cerretti Electrical on his own from his garage. Jamie joined him later, and together they have grown it into a team of 10, including two apprentices, now based at their own headquarters in Inverbervie.
The shortlisting follows a busy year of growth in solar and battery storage across the North East. By September 2026, Cerretti had installed 780 solar panels this year, up 20% on the 650 installed in the whole of 2025, with the year’s installations estimated to generate 296,189kWh of clean electricity. At the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill, the community hub’s 84-panel solar system and 23.2kWh battery, funded through the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund, has generated 56.33MWh of its own electricity since February 2025 (as of September 2026). Of that, 32.10MWh has been used directly in the building, saving an estimated £12,000 to £14,000 through lower bills and export payments and avoiding 38,700kg of CO₂.
In Arbroath, Cerretti is delivering solar installations for a local housing association. The work began with 12 homes at Harry Nicol Gardens, with more than 110 panels installed across the first phase to help residents bring down their electricity costs. The team has now also completed a second phase of 36 homes, with a further phase of around 20 properties proposed for next year, bringing the benefits of solar to the area.
Frazer Cerretti said: “Our growth has come from doing a good job and being trusted with the next one, and that’s how we want to keep going. There’s a big opportunity for businesses and homeowners to take control of their energy bills, and we want to be the local team they think of first. To be shortlisted in a national Scottish award alongside other family businesses means a lot.”
Jamie Cerretti said: “Growing the business means growing the team, so we’ve been investing in the right people and the right training. This year that’s meant bringing in an operations manager and taking on apprentices, and our new HQ gives us the space to train them properly. We want the people who come through Cerretti to be able to build a career here in the North East.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow, on Thursday 19 November 2026.
