JTL apprentice Jack Hawkins has been crowned the winner of the prestigious ECA Edmundson Apprentice of the Year Award 2025, with fellow JTL apprentice Gary Hall also recognised among the top three in the country.

The award, now in its 50th year, recognises the country’s top electrotechnical and engineering services apprentices, celebrating their skill, dedication and contribution to the future of the industry.

Jack, employed by Camelot Electrical Ltd, impressed judges with exceptional technical ability, professionalism and ambition, earning the top prize of £3,000, a state-of-the-art toolkit and an overseas study trip. Gary, employed by Dalkia, was also highly commended as one of the three outstanding apprentices to reach the final stage of the award, receiving £2,000 and a toolkit.

This remarkable double achievement highlights the calibre of JTL apprentices and the support of their employers, as well as JTL’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality apprenticeships that equip learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to excel in their careers.

Jack Hawkins said:

“It’s an incredible honour to have won this award, and I want to thank my employers at Camelot Electrical for their continued support, mentorship and always believing in me. Working with such a skilled and forward-thinking team has shaped my journey in ways I’ll always value. I’d also like to thank my Training Officer, Rhys Regan at JTL, for providing the guidance and encouragement that helped me grow both technically and professionally. I’m truly grateful for this recognition — and excited for what’s next.”

Rhys Regan, Jack’s JTL Training Officer, said:

“Jack has consistently demonstrated excellence throughout his electrical apprenticeship. From meeting every deadline to passing all assessments on the first attempt, his dedication is unmatched. Even during the challenges of Covid restrictions, Jack showed remarkable resilience and commitment to his growth, completing not only his apprenticeship but also additional professional development courses such as inspection and testing alongside it. Jack is now working towards a Fire and Security apprenticeship so that he can be an asset in all areas of Camelot’s business. A true role model for aspiring apprentices!”

Paul Russell, Managing Director of Camelot Electrical Ltd, said:

“Since joining us in 2020, Jack has become an invaluable member of the team, showing initiative, confidence, and professionalism beyond his years. He has played a key role in our renewables work, from EV chargers to solar and battery storage, and is always eager to share knowledge with others. Jack’s drive to learn and contribute makes him a stand-out apprentice, and a great example of the future talent our industry needs.”

Gary Hall said:

“I am extremely proud to have made it through to the final stages of the awards. I feel without the support of Dalkia, my colleagues and Andrew at JTL, I wouldn’t have the confidence and skills that I have today and wouldn’t have made it this far in the competition. Thank you to all those who have supported me throughout my apprenticeship.”

Andrew Goodacre, Gary’s JTL Training Officer, said:

“Gary embodies professionalism, resilience, and a positive attitude. Whether tackling challenging tasks, offering innovative solutions, or taking the initiative to improve workflows, he has continuously exceeded expectations. His willingness to support colleagues and contribute to a collaborative work environment speaks volumes about Garys character and he has become not just a valued member of his team, but also an inspiration to others pursuing apprenticeships. I am so pleased and proud for Gary who for making it to the final!”

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive at JTL, said:

“A huge congratulations to Jack Hawkins from all of us at JTL on such a great achievement. Jack should be proud of dedication and professionalism, the support of his employer goes to show how valuable he is to their business.

“We are incredibly proud of both Jack and Gary for reaching the final stage of this prestigious award. It is a testament to the dedication they have shown throughout their apprenticeships and the quality of the training they’ve had with JTL. Both apprentices embody the professionalism and talent that the industry needs to thrive. Being named among the top three in the country is an outstanding achievement in itself and reflects the vital role apprenticeships play in developing skilled, confident and future-ready individuals.”
