CU Phosco has supplied a high mast lighting system as part of the redevelopment of Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla. Working with Precision ATM, the project delivers ICAO-compliant LED lighting for the airport’s expanded aircraft stands and apron infrastructure, helping to improve visibility and operational safety across the airfield.
Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport is Anguilla’s main aviation gateway. Located close to the island’s capital, The Valley, it is an important hub for tourism and regional connectivity across the Caribbean.
The airport recently underwent a major redevelopment programme led by the Government of Anguilla. Works included a new passenger terminal, upgraded airfield infrastructure and a full apron redevelopment. New aircraft stands were also introduced to improve operational efficiency and accommodate future growth.
To illuminate the expanded apron areas, high-performance lighting infrastructure was required to provide safe visibility for aircraft movements, servicing operations and ground handling activities. The lighting design needed to achieve ICAO Annex 14 recommended lighting levels while delivering reliable long-term performance in a demanding coastal airport environment.
CU Phosco was selected by Precision ATM following the specification of raise and lower high masts within the project requirements.
The lighting system comprised six 15-metre raise and lower high masts, two fixed columns, 15 FL820-1 LED floodlights and five FL830 LED floodlights. CU Phosco also provided lighting design and mast design services as part of the project.
Selected for their safety advantages, the raise and lower high masts allow ground-level access to the luminaires without the need for work at elevated height and the subsequent need for specialist elevated access equipment or disruption to airfield operations.
Designed in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 recommendations, the lighting scheme delivers uniform illumination across the expanded apron and aircraft stand areas while helping to maintain safe operating conditions across the airfield.

The completed installation forms part of the wider transformation of Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, with the redevelopment delivered by main contractor AECON AC. The airport officially opened in December 2025.
New LED lighting now provides reliable, high-quality illumination across key operational areas of the airfield. This ensures safe aircraft manoeuvring, apron operations and ground servicing activities. The use of modern LED floodlights also delivers excellent light quality and a long operational life that is suitable for demanding airfield environments.
By incorporating raise and lower high masts into the design, the airport benefits from safer, simplified maintenance access and reduced operational disruption during future servicing requirements, an important consideration within live aviation environments.
Dave Smith, Director, Precision ATM commented:
“Delivering reliable apron lighting was an important part of the airfield lighting project. CU Phosco’s experience in high mast lighting and airfield applications helped provide a solution that met the project’s operational and maintenance requirements while aligning with the airport’s long-term expansion plans.”
