SPARKS Magazine is getting ready to crown its 2022 Learner of the Year at a live final later this month.
It comes after dozens of competitors from across England and Wales took part in six regional heats in an effort to win the prestigious title of SPARKS Magazine’s 2022 Learner of the Year.
The six regional heat winners will take part in a 10 hour practical installation, spread over two days, at the Schneider Electric Innovation Hub in Coventry.
This year’s test was designed by the Technical Team at NAPIT.
Commenting ahead of the competition’s final Emily Hilton, SPARKS Magazine’s Operations Manager, said that: “We’ve been blown away by the standard in this year’s regional heats. The live competitions have showcased the industry’s incredible future talent and we can’t wait to see the finalists in action.”
2022 Regional Heat Winners:
Thomas Adlam, Bridgwater and Taunton College (South West Regional Heat Winner)
Ted Stamp, Darlington College (North East Regional Heat Winner)
Luke Halsall-Hart, Clifford College (North West Regional Heat Winner)
Benjamin Fox, Exeter College (South East Regional Heat Winner)
Jack Matthews, Lincoln College (Midlands Regional Heat Winner)
Paige Morris, Coleg Y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach Campus (Wales Regional Heat Winner)
The live final will take place on Wednesday 27th April and Thursday 28th April, with the results being announced on the second day of the final.
This year’s national competition was sponsored by Schneider Electric, Electric Center, Dewalt, Ideal Industries EMEA, The IET, Prysmian, Blaklader, NAPIT and VW Commercial Vehicles with an incredible selection of prizes donated by the sponsors.
The event is a fantastic opportunity for electrical students and apprentices to kick-start their career, experience the thrill of a live competition and make new connections along the way.
Tom Tyler from City of Wolverhampton College was crowned as the 12th winner of the competition in 2021.
He said: “The competition gives you an opportunity to show off what you do day-to-day on a national scale, challenge yourself, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. It’s reassuring that you’ve had other people look at your work, judge it, and they think it’s good. It’s beyond what they would necessarily expect from people.”
