Five Toolstation colleagues have completed the British Heart Foundation’s Off Road Bike Ride, a 61-mile cycle from London to Brighton, helping raise over £3,000 for the retailer’s charity partner.
The gruelling off-road route, which started at Apps Court Farm and finished at Hove Lawns, was taken on by Toolstation’s B2B team including Business Development Managers Damien Torrence, Ricky Smith and Cara Kane, Key Account Manager Stuart Smith and Store Manager Matt Yates on 19th September, joining over 1,400 cyclists for the official event.
The five colleagues helped raise over £3,000 for the charity via their JustGiving pages*, whilst BHF’s own event page raised over £75,000, helping fund pioneering medical research into cardiovascular disease.
Toolstation colleagues voted to partner with the cardiovascular research charity last March to champion heart health for Toolstation colleagues as well as within the trade sector. This collaboration aims to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors among tradespeople, while also raising vital funds to help support the BHF’s lifesaving research.
Damien Torrence, Business Development Manager at Toolstation who participated in the fundraising challenge, comments “It was an absolutely epic journey with some amazing views and fantastic people met along the way – and all done for a great cause.
“I hope to continue participating in these fundraising events to help protect the hearts of our colleagues and customers who do so much for our communities.”
Throughout the partnership, Toolstation and BHF will provide tradespeople with crucial information about cardiovascular disease and their risk factors, while also equipping them with CPR skills, helping to protect both their own heart and that of their colleagues and families. Toolstation has committed to training all 5,000 of its colleagues in CPR, using the BHF’ free online CPR training tool RevivR.
The retailer has hosted several fundraising events to support the charity partner so far, including a ‘Race Across the Stores’ challenge which raised over £3,000, a clay pigeon shoot raising over £46,000, and charity golf day with close to £16,000 donated. Fundraising efforts for BHF also come through Toolstation’s collaboration with micro-donation charity Pennies, which enables customers to add an optional donation to the charity onto their purchases when paying by card and contactless.
Sophie Overall, BHF Senior Partnerships Manager, said: “A big thank you to the Toolstation London to Brighton Off-Road team, who went the extra mile and raised more than £3,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Every pound raised will help fund our lifesaving research and support people living with cardiovascular diseases.”
