EcoAct response to Energy Bill Relief Scheme

Following the announcement of the Government Energy Bill Relief scheme it the UK, Lindsay Ventress, Principal Consultant & Service Line Lead at EcoAct, an Atos company said:

“The announcement of the Energy Bill Relief Scheme from BEIS today will provide businesses with assurances over the winter. However, even at the new fixed rate, bills for many companies will have climbed substantially and margins will be significantly squeezed. Capping bills represents one tool in the arsenal of legislators but it is one which fails to grasp the root cause; energy usage. In some worst-case scenarios as much as 36 per cent of a bill is produced by wasted energy and the importance of energy efficiency has never been more stark.

“Despite the lack of legislative action in this area, businesses cannot allow this to become a blocker for action. An energy-efficient office can save up to 65 per cent on energy bills, contribute to wider business sustainability strategies and free up funds for other parts of the business. Businesses which take action on energy efficiency now will reap the benefits in the long term and can protect themselves against long term volatility.”
