The electrical skills gap is growing nationwide, with London experiencing the most dramatic shortfall. To help plug this gap – caused by the UK’s ageing workforce and the crucial role electricians have in the path to net zero – and bring on board the 15,000+ more electricians required over the next five years, Southeast-based Logic4training has launched new routes to becoming a qualified electrician, with no experience necessary.
According to analysis from the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA), across the country there has been a 5.5 per cent drop in electrical apprenticeship starts, rising to 8% in Greater London and surrounding areas. Logic4training’s new training packages provide an alternative route to becoming an electrician, ideal for career changers, or anyone looking for a faster way into this in demand sector.
Candidates gain hands-on experience in modern workshops taught by experienced electrical trainers, complete industry-leading qualifications and have the option to achieve an NVQ with the addition of an on-site portfolio, providing the evidence-based experience needed to be an ECS Gold Card holding electrician. Training can be structured to suit work commitments, budget and lifestyle.
Following completion, installers can choose to add low carbon technologies such as solar photovoltaics (pv), battery storage and electric vehicle charge point installation to their skillset.
Available at Logic4training centres in Northolt, Luton, Basildon and Sittingbourne, there are a number of training options:
Become an electrician’s mate – City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations: Learn the basics of electrical science, safe working practices and wiring systems, and gain hands-on experience installing cables, sockets, lighting and consumer units, plus all the necessary health & safety. Add PAT testing, which can be offered as a standalone service.
Take the next step to becoming an electrician – City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations: Build advanced knowledge of electrical systems, including inspection, testing and fault finding and work on more complex installations; the ideal preparation for a full NVQ.
Become a fully qualified electrician – City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installation & Maintenance: Everything required to become an electrician, ideal for candidates who have access to a site where they can prove their competence by completing a practical portfolio of works. On completion candidates will be eligible to apply for an ECS Gold Card, which identifies the cardholder as a qualified electrician.
Once qualified, Logi4training offers a range of renewable upskill courses, including solar photovoltaics, battery storage and electric vehicle charge point installation.
All qualifications are evergreen, allowing candidates wishing to move onto the next stage to do so at a time and pace to suit.
