Leading Midlands’ landlord whg is helping budding electricians get on the career ladder, thanks to a partnership with electrical installations specialist Dodd Group.

Dodd Group, which holds the contract for electrical maintenance within all of whg’s homes, was looking for an apprentice to train onsite.

They approached whg for help filling the position, and were delighted to take on 16-year-old Charlie Winwood.

Charlie Winwood, who has just completed his GSCEs, was supported with his application by whg’s Employment and Training team, who gave him interview advice and put his name forward.

Charlie, who is now on a four year electrical apprenticeship scheme, said: “The Dodd Group is a highly reputable and well established business and this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I’m so pleased whg supported me in my application.

I’m really excited to start my apprenticeship – this is my dream job!”

Donna Goodall, Social Value Co-ordinator at whg, said: “We’re always looking at ways we can work with our partners to make a real impact in local communities, and one way of doing that is to support local people into jobs.

“We’re delighted that we have been able to support Dodd Group in filling one of their vacancies, and look forward to seeing Charlie work on some of our properties in the region.”

Matthew Lewis, Managing Director at Dodd Group, added: “With over 35% of our senior management team starting their careers as a trade apprentice, we know first-hand that apprenticeships are the lifeblood of our business and our industry. It is great to work with like-minded organisations such as whg, who are wishing to promote local jobs in the local community. Having Charlie on board will provide him with opportunities in one of the largest privately owned M&E businesses in the UK.”
