Cooper Weston Electrical Contractors, a fully trained NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) company, have announced they have achieved CHAS Accreditation, which completes a successful 2017 for the skilled team.

Founded in 2012 by Stuart Cooper and Shane Weston, they offer contracting services throughout London and Sussex and highlight that the new accreditation is a further way to add value to their services and provide the best results for clients.

Throughout the year, Cooper Weston were assessed for CHAS, the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme, which has been a top authority on safety and compliance in construction since 1997. The assessment process included an official from CHAS reviewing policy statements, health and safety arrangements, and industry specific health and safety arrangements for the work being undertaken with clients.

Owner Stuart Cooper states, “We’re incredibly proud of our team for working hard to achieve this accreditation which will ensure that all of our projects will continue to be completed to the highest possible standards. With the accreditation renewed annually, it’s reassuring for clients to see we’re always going to be compliant and that the certification is reflective of our work and up-to-date when they get in touch.”

He adds, “Accreditation involves an in-depth procedure and it isn’t easy to obtain. After five years in the industry it will further establish us for bigger jobs as it is a requirement to have for most larger developers.”

To become CHAS accredited, a company must have a robust health and safety management system in place and meet the high standards set to be certified. A CHAS accreditor must review insurances, training registers, staff qualifications, safe on-site work and a good knowledge of asbestos and hazardous substances must be showcased by staff. Supervisors must have the relevant training and qualifications, whereas junior employees have to demonstrate awareness of the health and safety guidelines and undertake the relevant training courses.

Earlier this year, Cooper Weston were finalists in the Electrical Industry Awards 2017 for Electrical Project of the Year. The nominated project – a modern refit of a 7,000 sq. ft print works in Shoreditch – involved a number of different elements, including new comms cabinet, splicing a new fibre line, steel conduit and perimeter trunking.

Looking ahead to 2018, the former start-up who have worked extensively on all three Battersea Dogs and Cats Home sites for the past three years, will continue to have new clients in London, Sussex and Surrey and will continue to work on industrial, commercial and domestic projects.
