A team of cyclists has successfully taken part in a 400-mile charity bike ride to raise funds for the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Eleven cyclists from leading electrical distributor Rexel, hailing from the UK and French arms as well as from supplier organisations, alongside two support drivers, have successfully completed the ride which saw them pedal from the global headquarters in Paris to Rexel UK HQ in Birmingham.

Peter Elliott, Commercial Director at Rexel, has organised the trip since its conception six years ago and was thrilled to have completed the challenge. He said: “We had a lot of fun on this trip. We knew the challenge would be difficult, but we powered through and were blessed with some nice weather along the way. To do over 400 miles in just five days is a tremendous effort and to do it as a team just makes it all the more special.

“We’re thrilled to have surpassed our target of £30,000 for our chosen charities – The EIC and Macmillan Cancer Support, through the many generous donations made. That brought the overall total raised through the years to over £100,000 which is amazing. Every pound donated will be going to great causes.

“I think we have all been affected by cancer in some way, and Macmillan provide fantastic support for families facing up to this. The gruelling miles were made easier knowing the money raised will be making a genuine difference to people.

“I’m privileged to be on the board of the EIC, a fantastic charity which helps people facing real hardship in our industry. It’s a charity close to our hearts as members of the Rexel team have benefited from the superb support they offer.”

This year has seen Rexel officially partner with the EIC. So far two major fundraising events have taken place and more are planned to the year end.
