Right to Repair law – RATED PEOPLE RESPONDS

In response to the launch of the new Right to Repair law, which makes appliances easier to repair and cheaper to run –
- Rated People’s Home Improvement Trends Report finds that 57 per cent of homeowners want to be more eco-friendly
- Repairs currently account for just 1 per cent of jobs at Rated People
Adrienne Minster, CEO of Rated People said:
“The launch of the new ‘Right to Repair’ law is a big win for consumers. Manufacturers will now legally have to make spare parts for new household products like fridges, washing machines and TVs available for 10 years after their launch. Domestic appliance repairs currently account for just 1% of jobs at Rated People, because finding parts and navigating a repair can be extremely time consuming and difficult for homeowners. But, with this new law, it should be straightforward for electricians and handymen to turn up to a job and fix appliances without having trouble sourcing replacement parts.
New appliances can be expensive. Being able to fix goods instead of replacing them will save consumers money in the long run. Also, higher energy efficiency standards included within the scheme can save households £75 per year.
As well as putting money back into consumers’ pockets, the ‘Right to Repair’ will also cut electrical waste by 1.5 million tonnes each year. Homeowners desperately want to be more eco-friendly and any support that helps encourage greener living and reduce our household waste is a positive step.”
Right to Repair law
- Manufacturers will have to make parts available for 10 years after products launch.
