Solar panels SLASH monthly bills for a homeowner – and the planet wins too

Heatforce customer, Alistair Preece, has seen his energy bills drop by over 60% since installing solar panels in the first eleven months on his home in north Cardiff.

Solar panels are not just great for the pennies, but are also great for doing your bit for the environment too.

“How to save money on bills” has seen a 56% increase in Google searches, on average, compared to June 2024, showing that Brits are keen to cut down on their monthly bill costs.

Prior to installing solar panels on his home in July 2024, Alistair’s quarterly bill for January to March 2024 was £276.42.

However, his bills for the same period in 2025 were just £186.38, a saving of £90 compared to the previous year when Alistair didn’t have solar panels.

“We knew solar would make a difference, but the savings have been even better than expected. I saved £175 in the first three months, although this was going from Winter to Summer, so it’s great to have a Winter on Winter comparison and still see a huge saving.”

While the typical upfront cost of solar panels typically ranges from £5,000 to £8,000, depending on the size of the system, many solar panel investors are recouping their investment in as little as 5-7 years.

While there are currently no grants for installing solar panels, solar panels are at the lowest cost that they’ve ever been and have plummeted 80% in the past decade.

The UK Government also supports homes using renewable energy, and has cut VAT on all domestic solar panel installations until the end of 2027.
