TRT Lighting has launched its first dedicated heritage lantern range, marking a significant expansion of its outdoor lighting portfolio.

Developed in response to growing customer demand, the new range enables TRT to support projects where traditional aesthetics are required alongside modern road lighting, strengthening its ability to compete across a wider range of public realm and conservation-led schemes.

Across the UK, local authorities and specifiers are increasingly balancing lighting performance with the need to preserve the character of historic streets, town centres and conservation areas. This often requires a mix of functional road lighting and heritage-style luminaires within the same scheme, placing greater emphasis on consistency in both visual appearance and technical performance.

Until now, this has often meant working with multiple suppliers.

The initial launch includes two of the most widely specified heritage forms: Heming, a traditional top-entry, cradle-mounted teardrop lantern, and Merse, a classic four-sided frog-mounted lantern.  By focusing on these established styles, TRT Lighting is targeting the most commonly specified lanterns, with the flexibility to support a broad range of applications from day one.

Ross Evans, Managing Director at TRT Lighting, said: “This is something our customers have been asking for. More and more projects now require a mix of modern road lighting and heritage-style luminaires, and until now, that’s been work we’ve had to turn away.

With the introduction of Heming and Merse, we can now deliver those schemes fully, giving specifiers a simpler, single-source solution across both functional and heritage applications.”

Designed to complement TRT’s existing road lighting ranges, including the market-leading Aspect Gen2, the heritage lanterns combine classic styling with modern LED performance. The range offers a choice of colour temperatures, including and 2200K, 2700K, supporting schemes where ecological sensitivity or reduced blue light content are key considerations.

This flexibility allows specifiers to respond to increasingly stringent guidance around obtrusive light and environmental impact, while still achieving required lighting levels and uniformity.

Optical performance has been developed to align with current road lighting requirements, ensuring the luminaires can deliver efficient, controlled light distribution suitable for a range of applications, from residential streets to heritage town centres.

As with TRT’s wider portfolio, the range is engineered for long-term performance, with a focus on durability, ease of maintenance and compatibility with modern control systems.

The launch reinforces TRT’s commitment to supporting specifiers, contractors and local authorities with practical, future-ready solutions that meet the evolving demands of the built environment.
